WEST RIDING SENIOR CUP.

SEMI-FINAL TIE.

LEEDS UNITED QUALIFY TO MEET BRADFORD IN FINAL.

By defeating Bradford City yesterday afternoon on the Elland Road ground, Leeds United earned the right to meet Bradford in the final tie, to be played on May 14. Both teams put their strongest available elevens in the field, but the general run of the game left much to be desired. Bradford City's position in the Second Division was reflected in their play, and the United, although the victors, by no means added to their reputation as a scoring force. As in a number of their League games this season, they had quite three-fourths of the play, yet could do no more than score twice. Apart from McLaren, the City were extremely poor. Their best work was displayed near the close of play, when a sharp but flickering effort was made to pull the game out of the fire. United finished the game with ten men, Menzies retiring ten minutes before the end. Turnbull filled the left-back position in the second half and did splendidly. White was off the field for a time and when he returned went to outside left, Mitchell having crossed to inside right in his absence, Menzies being on his right. Immediately the whistle went Leeds assumed an attacking attitude, and maintained it for some time before Bradford had a look in. Whilst the City had to be content with short jabs at the Leeds goal, the pressure on the Bradford goal was of a sustained nature, and United gained the lead at the end of fourteen minutes' play. Jennings had a shot at goal, the ball travelling along the bar and dropping in front of Wainscoat, who headed it into the net. Leeds maintained a general superiority throughout the half, and with a less competent goal-keeper than McLaren between the posts, Bradford would have been well in arrears instead of only crossing over with only a goal against them. With a strangely composed forward line after the interval United did quite well, They not only held their own, but increased their lead at the expiration of thirty minutes' play. Jennings was again in the picture. Fastening on the ball he ran strongly for goal from far out. McLaren advanced to meet him and slipped, leaving Jennings to dribble the ball into the net.

Result:- Leeds United 2 goals Bradford City none. Teams:- Leeds United: Potts; Allan and Menzies; Atkinson, Townsley and Reed; Turnbull, White, Jennings, Wainscoat and Mitchell. Bradford City: McLaren; Tyler and Russell; Bancroft, Gilhooley and Lloyd; McMillan, C. Moore, Birkenshaw, F. Moore and Richardson.
